Advocacy:The best way to assist credit unions with the regulatory burden
is to try to advocate for change before regulations and laws become final...
Legislative Advocacy
One way the Michigan Credit Union League and CUNA assists with regulatory compliance is through the legislative process (state and federal), helping to ensure that credit union friendly laws are passed.
The MCUL and CUNA also work with state and federal regulators such as the CFPB, NCUA and DIFS to reduce and minimize the level of credit union regulatory burden.
The MCUL and CUNA both conduct annual examination surveys to allow credit unions the opportunity to provide feedback on their exam experience. Results are used for advocacy efforts with applicable regulators. CUNA and the MCUL both support federal legislation to bring fairness to the examination and appeals process as well as advocating for longer examination cycles.
